Description
Travel to the ‘Golden Ring’, a circle of age-old cities steeped in the history and culture of Russia. This is a land of glittering onion-domed Orthodox churches and monasteries and medieval kremlin walls. Starting in Moscow you’ll head out to Suzdal, once capital of European Russia, and graced by many ornately decorated wooden houses. You’ll also be charmed in Yaroslav, another venerable town, set at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl rivers. Stop at Sergiev Posad – built around one of Russia’s grandest monasteries – then take the overnight train from Moscow to St Petersburg. Explore the canal-lined city’s baroque streets and enter the world-famous HermitageMuseum – once home of the Tsars and now filled with priceless treasures. Just a short drive away is Pushkin, the former Tsar’s royal estate, where you’ll find more imperial opulence at Catherine’s Palace. Return to St Petersburg for a final night in Russia.
