Responsible Tourism
Neilson Adventures
recognises that in order to continue to offer the very best trips to the most
pristine wildernesses on earth it is vital to take responsibility for the
conservation, protection and, wherever possible, improvement of those
destinations. All our trips promote travel that is
environmentally,
culturally and socially responsible
with the utmost respect for
the fragility of the world’s wilderness environments, its indigenous people and
the animals we encounter. However, some of our trips make a particular
difference to the local economy, community or environment of the places they
are operated in. These are highlighted on our website with a green logo and more details can be found in the Responsible Travel section of the individual trip guides.
Sustainable Holidays
This is achieved by
operating only small travel groups and always considering the effect we have on
local communities. From good old fashioned ‘tidying up after ourselves’ to
ensuring local staff are well treated and well paid. Tourism can be a great
boost to the local communities in which we operate, providing much needed
currency in the local community and, when practiced responsibly, will always be
welcomed by its people.
At our state-of-the-art headquarters in Brighton our staff actively
promote a more sustainable future in everything we do. From the printing of our
brochures to minimizing the carbon footprint of the entire building. Our
partners who make our trips happen at home and overseas, also share this
commitment to protecting earth’s valuable resources with award-winning
initiatives and by constantly striving to reduce their own carbon footprint to
as small as possible.
Born
Free
Neilson Adventures have been working closely with the
Born Free Foundation, the international wildlife charity that tirelessly
campaigns for the protection of threatened species and to stop animal suffering
anywhere in the world. From an African safari to whale watching, witnessing a
family of gorillas at play or a polar bear hunting for food, following the
guidance provided by Born Free enables once-in-a-lifetime experiences in the
wild without affecting the freedom or well-being of the animals we encounter.
Working closely with Born Free, in accordance with
their Travellers Animal Alert initiative, we’ve created our own Animal
Protection and Welfare strategy ensuring all our adventure holidays involving
animals, whether observing them in their natural habitat or any other form of
animal interaction, is closely monitored and adheres to strict guidelines. For
more information about the Born Free Foundation and their work to keep wildlife
in the wild, visit www.bornfree.org.uk
The Travel Foundation
Neilson and Thomas Cook, our parent company, along with other
responsible tour operators, were founding members of the sustainable travel
charity 'The Travel Foundation'. We
continue to work closely with the charity which seeks to develop practical
solutions to help improve and protect holiday destinations, their natural
environments, traditions and cultures. To find out more about the work of The
Travel Foundation visit www.thetravelfoundation.org.uk
It’s a wonderful world. We’d like to help keep it that way.
