Description
A short Icelandic break, trekking through the island’s remarkable volcanic landscapes, and getting close to the active craters of Eyjafjallajokull, where the infamous ‘dust cloud’ sprung from. From the compact, lively capital Reykjavik you’ll head into the wilderness, making a complete circuit of the Fjallabak, an extraordinary volcanic region unique to Europe. Using 4WD vehicles, you’ll cross fields of ash and pass dramatic crater lakes to reach the Landmannalaugar valley, with an optional hike to the top of Blaunukur for panoramic views of this bizarre, steaming landscape. Take a dip in the local hot springs and spend the night in a mountain lodge before hiking onwards for fantastic views of the Eyjafjallajokull craters. Return to Reykjavik for a final night in Iceland and a chance to visit the city’s famous Blue Lagoon thermal springs.
