Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Lima and check into your hotel. Meet your tour representative this evening for a welcome briefing.
Day 2 Take an early internal flight to Cuzco, the historic capital of the Andes. Cuzco sits at around 3,300m so is a good spot to acclimatize and immerse yourself in Peruvian culture. Overnight in city hotel.
Day 3 Travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit the local market and ruins at Pisac and continue to the pretty village of Ollantaytambo. Overnight hotel
Day 4 Commence the four-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, joined by your local trek crew. Pass through cloud forest to high plateaus and Inca ruins.
Days 5-6 Climb to the trek’s highest point – the 4,198m ‘Dead Woman’s Pass’. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks you’ll continue through stretches of cloud forest, walk along an Inca causeway and tunnel and enjoy views of the Urubamba Valley. Reach the ruins of Phuyupatamarca and camp here or slightly further on at Winay Wayna.
Day 7 Ascend the steps of the Sun Gate to enter Machu Picchu itself in the early morning. Spend time exploring the famous Inca ruins before catching the train back to Cuzco in the afternoon with a night in the lively colonial city.
Day 8 Tour ends in Cuzco.
