Description

Few other operators are running this excellent trek which is rapidly gaining a reputation as the 'Inca Trail' of the Middle East, and is a stand-out 'Connoisseur's Choice' adventure. From the Dana Nature Reserve, your route takes you southwards to the ‘rose red’ city of Petra, with six days of top quality hiking through deep wadis (dry river canyons) and across steep rocky slopes to high desert viewpoints. Your guides will point out ancient Nabataean and Byzantine ruins along the way and take you to Bedouin-style open camps. Crossing the region’s red sandstone hills, you will finally catch sight of Petra’s Monastery, marking the effective end of the trek. Drop down into this incredible, ancient, rock-carved city for a dramatic finale to the trip. On the drive back north to Madaba you’ll stop at Mount Nebo and have a chance to swim in the ever-so-salty waters of the Dead Sea, 400m below sea-level.
