Description
A Mount Kenya trek rewards adventurous souls with some of the best walking in Africa. Taking the Chogoria Route, pass through elephant and buffalo forest to the stunningly situated Lake Ellis and Lake Michaelson camps. Continue the climb to enjoy a magical African sunset at the ‘trekkers’ summit’ at 4,985m Point Lenana, before returning to the roadhead via the scenic Sirimon Route. As you’d expect, this is a pretty tough trek in places, especially on the final ascent to the summit. You may be near the equator but the altitude definitely makes a difference. With mainly short days of hiking you’ll have time to acclimatize, however, and the trails are generally excellent. The views are nothing short of spectacular, too, reaching across to distant Kilimanjaro. You’ll stay for one night in a mountain hut, camping for the rest of the time along with a first night in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
