  Description

If you’re pushed for time, you can tackle one of Africa’s great mountain challenges in a long weekend. Or you could tag this short trek onto other Moroccan adventures. Starting with a night in the incredible ancient city of Marrakech you’ll then drive into the High Atlas mountains to trek up to Neltner Refuge, sited dramatically at 3,200m. After the night here you’ll rise early for a long, hard day of trekking, climbing almost 1,000m to the summit of MountToubkal itself, North Africa’s highest peak at 4,167m. From here incredible views across the entire region unfold, and after admiring the scenery you’ll start descending to the roadhead at the Berber village of Aremd. This one-day ascent of Toubkal is relatively tough, although well within the capabilities of fit and active regular hikers, and altitude acclimatization shouldn’t pose a problem. At the end of this thoroughly rewarding trek you’ll return to Marrakech for a further night in this magical walled city of souqs and snake charmers.
