Description

See another side of Thailand by mountain bike, travelling far from the backpackers and beaches of the islands to the ‘Golden Triangle’ and the land of the northern hilltribes. Taking internal flights from Bangkok to the regional hub of Chiang Mai, you’ll cycle through varied landscape to the homelands of colourful tribes like the Karen, Lisu, Palaung and Akha. Bike from point to point on quiet back roads, village paths and elephant trails through mango orchards, rice fields, teak forests and lychee plantations overlooking Thailand’s highest mountains. Covering around 34 miles a day, the riding is suitable for most regular and reasonably fit cyclists with some off-road experience. On the way you’ll stay in hotels and resort lodges, many with pools, and enjoy delicious local Thai cuisine. Reaching the border with Burma travel by boat and elephant back to spend the night in a Jaklu village home. You can also soak up the culture at the Chiang Saen temples, and will spend a night at the end of the trip in bustling Bangkok.
