Description
The north of Thailand promises a cultural and peaceful alternative to the coastal resorts of the south. Journey from the confusion and colour of Bangkok, with a longtail boat trip on the city’s bustling canals first before heading north. Visit Sukhothai’s atmospheric ruins, dotted with pagodas, lotus strewn ponds and Buddhas, and continue to Lampang. Visit the Elephant Conservation Centre and take a ride on the back on one of these magnificent animals. Then you’ll enter the fabled ‘Golden Triangle’, a remote rural region populated by diverse hill tribes and once an integral part of the lucrative opium trade. Stop by the Burmese border and then drive to Chiang Mai, a historic city dotted with hundreds of temples and home to a lively night bazaar. Then it’s back to Bangkok by overnight sleeper train to end your Thai adventure.
