A superb and challenging trekking holiday in the wild Rila and PirinMountains of Bulgaria. This rates among Europe’s most rugged and remote terrain, and provide a serious hiking adventure for dedicated mountain walkers. It’s an uncrowded area of well waymarked trails, and your self-guided itinerary includes a mixture of circular day hikes along with treks to high mountain refuges. You’ll spend five nights in comfy local pensions, and two nights in the hills, including a memorable stay at the atmospheric ‘DarkLake’ hut. At the start of your tour you’ll first set off from Maliovitza to explore the RilaMountains, with a chance to visit the magnificent frescoed Rila Monastery, before heading into the Pirins. Here you’ll be treated to one of the world’s best continual ridge day walks before finishing your Balkan journey in the lively mountain resort of Bansko.
