Description

Sabah is one of Malaysia’s largest states, set on the north west of the jungle-swathed island of Borneo, and makes for a superb tropical adventure destination. From coastal Kota Kinabalu travel to the base of Mount Kinabalu, South East Asia’s highest peak. Embark on a challenging trek to the 4,095m summit, spending a night at a high mountain refuge. It’s not an easy climb, and altitude will slow you down somewhat, but there’s no rush and you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views and stunning natural surroundings. Next journey to the KinabatangangRiver, home to a bewildering array of wildlife, including kingfishers, hornbills and macaque and proboscis monkeys. Stay in a jungle lodge and take a boat along the river before travelling to Sepilok Orangutan Centre, one of the trip’s highlights, getting up close to the ‘wild men of Borneo’. Return to Kota Kinabalu via Sandakan, with its waterfront markets, and end the trip with time out on the tropical beaches of ManukanIsland.
